Primary elections are elections within a political party to determine who will be the party’s candidate in the general election. Only those voters who have registered with the party may vote in a party’s primary election.
June 28th Primary
In our area, there will be primary elections in both the Republican and Democratic parties for the candidates running for Governor and Lieutenant Governor.
You may vote at your regular polling site on June 28th or at any early voting site in Suffolk County during early voting from Saturday, June 18 through Sunday, June 26th.
Early election sites in our area include
Windmill Village, 219 Accabonac Road in East Hampton
Shelter Island Youth Recreation Center, 1 Bateman Road in Shelter Island
SUNY Stony Brook Southampton, 70 Tuckahoe Road in Southampton
Southold Senior Center, 750 Pacific Street in Mattituck
Early election times at all early voting sites are as follows:
Saturday and Sunday, 6/18 and 6/19, Saturday and Sunday, 6/25 and 6/26 and Monday, 6/20: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Tuesday, 6/21, and Wednesday, 6/22: 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
Thursday, 6/23, and Friday, 6/24: 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm
August 23rd Primary
So far, the only primary election in our area is in the Democratic and Republican parties for the candidates for U. S Congress from Congressional District #1.
If there is a challenge within any of the parties, there may be a primary among candidates for the NYS Senate.

GENERAL ELECTION – NOVEMBER 8
Oct. 14 – last day to postmark voter registration form or register in person at BOE
Saturday, Oct. 29 – Sunday, Nov. 6 – early voting
Oct. 24 – last day to postmark application for absentee ballot
Nov. 7– last day to submit absentee ballot in person
Nov. 8 – last day to postmark ballot for general election
Nov. 8 – last day to deliver absentee ballot in person to BOE
