The Education Committee reaches out to young people, in and outside of school, to introduce the pleasure as well as the importance of youthful participation in government. Vote 18 program has brought voter registration and information about voting to high schools throughout the Hamptons. The committee annually selects and sponsors high school students to attend “Students Inside Albany,” a statewide multi-day session introducing young people to the state level legislative process.

Other community projects have included:

  • Helping Girl Scout troops earn a “government badge”
  • Working with students who participate in Southampton’s Youth Court

The Education Committee, joined by League member volunteers, annually offers a workshop called “Running and Winning“. This program for female high school seniors brings them together with female public officials who discuss how they became interested in public office and what it entails.  The students are also given a public policy project on which they develop an implementation campaign.
